Fire damages Elgin garage; no injuries reported

A quick response to a 911 call prevented a garage fire from spreading and causing more significant damage Saturday, Elgin firefighters said.
Firefighters were called to the fire in a detached garage in the 100 block of South Worth Avenue at 4:43 p.m. Saturday and arrived about three minutes later, officials said. The call was placed after the resident, who was inside the home, noticed flames coming from the front of the garage.
Authorities said no injuries were reported and residents were not displaced. Damages to the garage were estimated at $10,000. An adjacent home also sustained heat damage, officials said.
