Body found in pond near Wauconda's Cook Memorial Park

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who was found Saturday morning in a shallow drainage pond north of Wauconda's Cook Memorial Park in unincorporated Lake County.

At 9:45 a.m., a neighbor spotted the body floating face down in the foot-deep water near the 28000 north block of Garland Road. The unidentified male looked to be between the ages of 50 to 60, and was only wearing shorts.

"We don't believe there's anything criminal in nature," said Sgt. Sara Balmes of the Lake County Sheriff's Office. "We don't believe there's any reason for people to be concerned in the area."

Balmes said an autopsy has been scheduled to try and determine the cause of death.
