Schaumburg Environmental Fair set for May 12

Schaumburg will host its 2018 Environmental Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

The free event will include presentations about conserving Monarch butterflies and learning more about weather extremes, like the microburst that Schaumburg residents experienced last summer. Participants also can take part in workshops that include how to build a Monarch rearing cage or a birdhouse. A drawing for a free rain barrel will also be offered at the village's Environmental Committee booth in the lobby of the library.

Community organizations scheduled to participate include: Start Seeing Monarchs (School District 54), North Cook Master Gardeners, Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards, Schaumburg Bicycle Club, Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary & Heritage Farm, Hoffman Estates Garden Club, S.C.A.R.C.E., Schaumburg Community Garden Club, VOS Environmental Committee, The Tomato Lady, Sierra Club, Schaumburg Township District Library, Gifts of the World and the Illinois Solar Energy Association.
