Police recover marijuana worth nearly $1 million from Inverness home
The Illinois State Police on Monday recovered more than 108 pounds of marijuana worth nearly $1 million from a home on the 1900 block of Camphill Circle in Inverness, prosecutors said.
Alejandro Martinez-Medina, 28, was arrested in conjunction with a Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force investigation into what prosecutors described as a “holding place” or “stash house.” Martinez-Medina was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
Martinez-Medina, who is on probation from California on a misdemeanor DUI charge, was charged with marijuana trafficking and possession of cannabis with intent to distribute. Both are felonies punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
Martinez-Medina, who was at the house Monday when police arrived, gave officers permission to search the premises, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Katherine Bird.
Officers recovered from the home four medium-sized vacuum-sealed packages containing 49,017 grams of marijuana with a street value of $980,000, she said.
Martinez-Medina next appears in court on April 21.
