Chicago man sentenced to 5 years for Palatine burglary
The last of three people whose attempt to burglarize a Palatine home was interrupted by the homeowner's arrival pleaded guilty to residential burglary charges.
Eric Mota, 22, of Chicago was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday in exchange for his guilty plea, court records show.
Prosecutors say Mota, who was on parole at the time of the burglary, drove to the Aldridge Avenue home on Dec. 10, 2017, with his brother Jack Mota, 19, and Brittany Barrett, 19.
Barrett knocked on doors until she found a home whose occupants were away, prosecutors said. While she served as a lookout, Eric Mota used a rock to smash a window of the home. Jack Mota then served as a lookout while Eric Mota entered the house.
About that time, the homeowner returned. Barrett honked the horn and drove away with Jack Mota and another unidentified person, while Eric Mota ran from the house carrying a zipped bag, prosecutors said.
Police apprehended them a short time later.
Mota received credit for 184 days in custody.
Barrett pleaded guilty in February to residential burglary. Jack Mota pleaded guilty to the same charge last month. Both were sentenced to two years of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities probation.
