86-year-old man beaten in home invasion near Wheaton

An 86-year-old man was beaten during a home invasion Tuesday in an unincorporated area near Wheaton, authorities said Thursday.

The man, who lived in the home, was taken to an area hospital for his injuries, DuPage County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Robert Harris said. The man is expected to survive.

Cash and a safe were taken from the victim's house near Prairie Avenue and Leonard Street, Harris said.

The sheriff's office said earlier this week that deputies were searching for two men in a home invasion around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The two men were seen fleeing in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with tinted windows and black rims. A third person may have been driving the vehicle, authorities said.

The suspects are described as between 16 and 20 years old, standing about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with small or medium builds . One was wearing a dark-colored coat and the other was wearing a light-colored coat.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (630) 407-2400.
