Buffalo Grove Rotary seeks Reid award nominees

The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is seeking nominations for the Bill Reid Community Service Award.

Nominees should demonstrate a strong commitment to the Buffalo Grove community, similar to that of Reid, a longtime resident and village trustee affectionately known as "Mr. Buffalo Grove." Reid died in 2000 and the award established in his honor was first given out in 2001.

In addition to serving as an elected official, Reid was also a charter member of the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club and an active community volunteer. He was an educator for 30 years and held several positions within Northwest Suburban High School District 214, including assistant principal. Reid was known for continually investigating new and creative ways to improve Buffalo Grove and the quality of life for all residents.

Nominations are due by June 1. They can be mailed or delivered to Village Manager, 50 Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove, IL 60089, Attn: Dane Bragg, chairperson, or via email to dbragg@vbg.org. A written summary of the nominee's community service activities in Buffalo Grove should be included, along with letters, statements or documentation to support the nomination. Nominators are also asked to secure a written "second" to the nomination prior to submitting the form.

The award recognition will include a public ceremony with a presentation of a recognition plaque, a $500 contribution to the charity of the award recipient's choice in the recipient's name and a $500 contribution in the recipient's name to The Rotary Foundation. The recipient's name will also be inscribed on the permanent award recognition plaque located in Buffalo Grove Village Hall.

The presentation of the award is tentatively scheduled to occur at the July 4th Rotary Village Green Concert, but will be based on the recipient's availability.
