Gurnee Police release results of extra St. Patrick's Day enforcement efforts

Gurnee Police issued 27 citations to drivers and arrested five people for drug or alcohol-related reasons during their St. Patrick's Day weekend enhanced enforcement period. The department paid for 24.5 extra hours of work from March 16 through March 19 through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Safety Programs and Engineering and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to a news release Thursday, of the 27 citations the department issued, 10 were for improper use of seat belts and four were for speeding.
