Man pleads guilty in Prospect Heights attack

A parolee whose attack against a Prospect Heights woman was deterred partly by the victim's dog pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in exchange for a 2½-year prison sentence, court records show.

Kevin Slewo was on parole for assaulting a police officer and armed with a gun when prosecutors say he threatened the woman - whom he knew - in her apartment on Aug. 30, 2017.

During the struggle that ensued, another woman who was at the apartment took the gun from Slewo, 26, and hid it at the same time the victim's dog attacked Slewo, according to authorities.

Slewo, who court records show lives in Morton Grove, subsequently fled. Prospect Height police officers, who recognized him from the woman's 911 call description, saw him walking nearby a short time later.

Court records show Slewo received credit for 177 days in custody.
