Elk Grove Village, firefighters agree to 5-year contract extension

Elk Grove Village and its firefighters union have reached agreement on a new five-year contract extension, officials announced Wednesday.

The deal goes into effect May 1, 2019 and solidifies hours, wages and working conditions through its expiration April 30, 2024, officials say.

Included are 2 percent wage increases in 2020 and 2022. Wages also will be adjusted in 2019, 2021 and 2023 to reflect adjustments made to salaries in the Elk Grove Village police contract.

Other topics covered in the extended agreement include language regarding staffing of the proposed new combination fire station, and a provision to allow electronic pay stubs in place of previously required paper pay records.

The village now has long-term contracts in place with both firefighters and the public works union, which is working under a five-year deal that expires in 2021.

"These long-term agreements are a result of the good working relationship the village maintains with our local unions and they continue our long history of reaching agreements that are fair to both the taxpayers and the employees." Mayor Craig Johnson said.
