No injuries in early morning Hoffman Estates house fire

Hoffman Estates fire officials are trying to determine what sparked an early morning fire Monday that caused about $20,000 in damage to a house on the 1600 block of Cape Breton Court.

Firefighters notified of the blaze at 6:21 a.m. arrived to find the two-story, single-family house with smoke and flames coming from the attic area.

The fire was contained to the attic and quickly extinguished, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials said the residents evacuated the house before firefighters arrived after being alerted by a neighbor.

Fire officials said the house had properly installed and working smoke detectors.

The fire was extinguished by a team of 25 firefighters, according to a village news release.

Streamwood firefighters assisted at the scene and the Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Barrington and Elgin fire departments provided station coverage for Hoffman Estates.

It's unclear if the home was deemed inhabitable.
