Mother Cluckers Kitchen open in Palatine

The much-anticipated Mother Cluckers Kitchen has opened on Northwest Highway at Colfax Street in Palatine.

Using family recipes and no frozen products, the restaurant co-owned by Richard and Penny Schweigel of Mount Prospect offers fried, smothered and broasted chicken, catfish, pulled pork and a shrimp po' boy sandwich, among other items.

Mother Cluckers debuted Monday in the former Hot Dog Richie's. The Schweigels have gained a strong following at the first Mother Cluckers they launched at 5200 N. Elston Ave. in Chicago. They said they looked at several other towns before settling on Palatine for their first suburban location, in part because of the availability of a free-standing building off a busy street.
