More snow could make for a hazardous commute this evening

With another round of accumulating snow expected to hit the suburbs today, forecasters are warning of a potentially slow and hazardous evening commute. Up to 5 inches of snow could fall in parts of northeast Illinois starting in the early afternoon and extending into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches by rush hour, which will likely result in reduced visibility and snow-covered roads. Full story.

Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LII

The Philadelphia Eagles' flight from last to first ended last night with a Lombardi Trophy. In a record-setting shootout between Nick Foles and Tom Brady, the backup quarterback led a pressure-packed 75-yard drive to the winning touchdown, 11 yards to Zach Etrz with 2:21 to go Sunday night. Ives campaign removes controversial retweet

The Twitter account for Republican gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives retweeted - then took down its retweet - of a message posted by a man whose page contains white supremacist and anti-Semitic content. The man, whose account says he's from Palatine, tweeted in support of the Wheaton lawmaker's controversial television ad and said he donated $1,000 to her campaign. Ives has faced intense criticism for the statewide ad, which has been called racist and homophobic, but some suburban lawmakers said this weekend they stood by their endorsements of Ives.

Accomplished suburban jazz musician, businessman dies at 80

Dick Mattick, an accomplished suburban jazz pianist who specialized in the music of the 1920s through the 1950s, died Jan. 27. He was 80. Mattick, a Barrington resident and successful business owner, was the leader of the popular Dick Mattick Swingtet and a fixture at Hackney's Restaurant in Glenview in the 1990s and early 2000s.
