After a 66-year-old woman bamboozled airport officials once again, sneaking through O'Hare security and boarding a flight to London, O'Hare officials announced updated security checkpoints. Serial stowaway Marilyn J. Hartman has been arrested multiple times for trespassing at airports around the country, including two separate incidents at O'Hare. Full story
Schaumburg High grad sought in Hawaii
Officials are still searching for a Schaumburg High School graduate after she and a hiking companion were carried away by flash flood waters in Hawaii last Friday. Kelly Mrowinski, who attended Schaumburg High School from 2004 to 2007, was working in Hawaii on assignment as a traveling nurse for Aya Healthcare and was out for a hike when she and her hiking companion were caught off guard by a flash flood. Shoeless Joe's temporarily closed in Rosemont after basement flood
Shoeless Joe's Ale House & Grille in Rosemont is temporarily closed while its landlord fixes plumbing and electrical issues in the basement, the bar's owner said yesterday. The sports bar on the northwest corner of Higgins and Mannheim roads had to shut down early last week when pipes burst in the lower level and flooded the area with several inches of water. Full story
Aurora man charged with second armed robbery
A 33-year-old Aurora man now faces his second armed robbery charge stemming from a Dec. 11 stickup at a gas station. He is also accused of robbing a convenience store in Kane County in December, just a day after the second alleged robbery. Full story
Prairie Ridge High School girls basketball coach charged with financial exploitation
The girls basketball coach at Prairie Ridge High School is facing several felony counts after he was accused of using tens of thousands of dollars belonging to an elderly person on two separate instances. If convicted on the two counts of felony financial exploitation he is charged with, he could face up to 15 years in prison. Full story
McHenry man charged with sexual abuse of a child
A McHenry County man has been charged with multiple felony counts after he was arrested on charges of sexually abusing a child. James J. Bernard was charged with three separate counts of sexual abuse of a minor younger than 13, along with three misdemeanor counts of domestic battery. Full story
Kitchen fire displaces Elgin family
A family was forced to leave their home yesterday afternoon after a kitchen fire left it uninhabitable. They were able to find temporary housing with family, but the damage to their single-family ranch-style home in Elgin was as high as $80,000. Full story

Chicago Bulls complete Mirotic trade after New Orleans picks up option
Nikola Mirotic officially was traded to the Pelicans on yesterday, along with a 2018 second-round pick. In return, the Bulls will get a first-round pick from New Orleans, plus ex-Bulls center Omer Asik, shooting guard Tony Allen and point guard Jameer Nelson. The Bulls also get the right to swap second-round picks in 2021. Full story
