McHenry man charged with sexual abuse of a child

A McHenry man has been charged with multiple felony counts after he was arrested on charges of sexually abusing a child.

James J. Barnard, of the 1800 block of Kerry Lane, was charged with three felony counts of sexual abuse of a victim younger than 13 and three counts of misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a complaint filed in the McHenry County court. The assaults reportedly happened on Nov. 1 and 28. If convicted, Barnard could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

After first appearing in court Wednesday, Barnard is due in court for a preliminary hearing in the McHenry County court on Feb. 26.
