Buffalo Grove firefighters honor one of their own at funeral

Firefighters Friday honored Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedic Kevin Hauber, who died last weekend after a long battle with colon cancer.

Hauber's casket was brought to St. Mary's Church for the funeral on a fire truck as part of a procession of emergency vehicles.

Firefighters carried his coffin into the church flanked by an honor guard of firefighters.

Hauber, 51, worked nearly 24 years for the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.

The Buffalo Grove Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association has created the Kevin Hauber Memorial Trust Fund at First Midwest Bank to support the education, health and well-being of his four young daughters.

Donations can be made at any First Midwest Bank branch or mailed to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, 1051 Highland Grove Drive, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. Checks should be written as follows, "Kevin Hauber Memorial Fund c/o BGPFFAPA."
