No injuries in Westmont apartment complex fire

A fire that caused extensive damage to a Westmont apartment complex early Wednesday has displaced residents in 18 units, authorities said.

No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze in the Westmont Village Apartments on the 6700 block of South Park Lane.

Firefighters responded at 1:40 a.m. and arrived to find heavy flames running up the outside wall to the attic.

More than 100 firefighters and other personnel from more than 35 fire agencies responded to the scene to help bring the blaze under control.

"Due to the quick response of the Westmont Police Department and the help of residents in the building knocking on doors, we were able to safely evacuate all three buildings with no injuries," Westmont Deputy Fire Chief Steve Riley said in a statement.

The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force is probing the cause of the blaze.
