District 155 approves contracts for superintendent, Central principal

The Crystal Lake High School District 155 school board recently approved new contracts for Superintendent Steve Olson through the 2020-21 school year, and Eric Ernd as Crystal Lake Central High School's principal.

Olson was interim superintendent since the start of the school year. He previously served as Central principal for 16 years, and as vice principal, dean, athletic director and guidance counselor.

"In the last several months, Mr. Olson has proved to us he's focused on a student-centered approach, strengthening community partnerships, and communicating openly and honestly," school board President Adam Guss said.

Olson started with the district as a social studies teacher at Crystal Lake South High School. He has a bachelor's degree in social studies from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and a master's degree in guidance and counseling and an administrative endorsement from Northern Illinois University.

Three of his children graduated from Central and his youngest daughter will graduate in May.

Ernd was interim principal at Central since Olson was appointed interim superintendent.

Ernd was vice principal at Central for six years. He previously served as athletic director and dean of students.

He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Eastern Illinois University, a master's degree in educational administration from Governors State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from National Louis University.

"Dr. Ernd has more than 27 years of education experience. He is familiar with our staff, students, parents and community, and he takes pride in Central's strong traditions," Olson said.

Ernd, of Crystal Lake, has a daughter who graduated from Central in 2014. His twins graduate in May, and his youngest son is a freshman.
