It's always time to fly at Poplar Creek

Frank Del Giudice of Hoffman Estates didn't let a chilly, overcast afternoon keep him from flying his radio-controlled, high-wing sport plane Sunday.

Keeping his aircraft below a 150-foot cloud ceiling, Del Giuduce made several acrobatic maneuvers and touch-and-go landings at the Cook County Forest Preserve's Poplar Creek flying field in Hoffman Estates.

Del Giudice has been flying radio-controlled aircraft since receiving his first kit as a birthday present from his wife in 1973.

"It's been nonstop ever since," Del Giudice said.

The plane he was flying Sunday, painted yellow and blue with red trim, is named "Kentucky Moon" and features a silhouette image of a wolf howling at the moon on the top of the wing.

Though he enjoys building and flying aircraft, it's the fellowship with people who have a common interest that Del Guidice, a member of the Tri-Village RC Club, enjoys.

"When you really get down to it, it's the people that you hang with," Del Giudice said. "I've made a lot of good friends."
