Hoffman Estates traffic stop leads to drug charges for Chicago man

A Chicago man pulled over by Hoffman Estates police Wednesday for a traffic violation had more than 30 grams of what authorities suspect was cocaine hidden in his underwear, prosecutors said during the man's bond hearing Thursday afternoon.

Harvey Davis, 30, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Davis, who has six felony convictions and a pending DUI charge in Chicago, was ordered held on a total bail of $85,000, $10,000 for violation of bail bond and $75,000 for the new charge.

Police recovered 41 plastic bags containing a white, rocklike substance and five plastic bags containing a white powdery substance, totaling 33 grams, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Katherine Bird said.

Davis' felony convictions date back to 2006 and include drug possession, stolen motor vehicle possession and forgery, Bird said.

He next appears in court on Feb. 13.
