Burst pipe leads to small flood at Schaumburg movie theater

The AMC Streets of Woodfield 20 movie theater had to close for a few hours Tuesday afternoon because a pipe froze, burst and flooded the theater's lobby according to Schaumburg fire officials.

Battalion Chief Rick Anderson said the department received a call from the Schaumburg movie theater about 1 p.m. When firefighters arrived, water was leaking from what appeared to be pipes for the building's sprinkler system.

"There was quite a bit of water," Anderson said. "Those sprinklers push out 20 gallons of water a minute."

The water was shut off, and the firefighters assisted in the cleanup effort by sweeping the water out the building using squeegee brooms. Anderson said they were there for about 45 minutes.

"It's that time of year where pipes freeze and burst and send water everywhere," Anderson said.

An employee at the movie theater said it reopened about 7 p.m.

The theater is located at 601 N. Martingale Road.
