Water main break forces lane closures in Mount Prospect

Drivers in Mount Prospect may want to avoid Busse Road for the next few days - a water-main break has forced lane closures between Willow and Golf roads.

Tempuratures rising above freezing for the first time in days may have caused a ground shift that damaged a 6-inch pipe that serves several single-family homes, public works director Sean Dorsey said Monday. He crews have repaired the main (which is original to the area, laid in the 1960s), and service is restored.

"Everybody's having water main breaks at this time of year," Dorsey said.

According to a Mount Prospect news release, north and south traffic will both be cut down from two lanes to one until 7 a.m. Thursday. Dorsey said new concrete will be poured Tuesday morning, but will need more than a day to cure.

That stretch of Busse is a residential area just south of the major Golf thoroughfare.
