Victim of Lake County crash identified

Authorities have identified a Lake Barrington woman killed in a Christmas Eve crash in Lake County.

Mary F. Paulik, 86, was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla that hit a Toyota Highlander as it crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 59 south of Route 22 around 6 p.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Christopher Covelli of the Lake County sheriff's office.

The Corolla, driven by a 63-year-old Arlington Heights woman, then went into a wetland area where it became partly submerged, officials said. Firefighters were able to rescue both women, who were then taken to separate hospitals.

Paulik was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she died Monday. Officials are not identifying the Corolla driver while the crash is under investigation.

The passengers in the Highlander, two Round Lake Beach residents, who were passengers in the Highlander, were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries that are not life-threatening, authorities said.
