Person injured, dog saved from Algonquin house fire

One person was injured Monday in a fire that started in the basement of an Algonquin house, fire officials said.

Crews were called about 11:35 a.m. to the 1100 block of Stonegate Road, where they found a single-story house with smoke coming from the back of the structure, according to a news release from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.

Six fire departments responded to the blaze, which was brought under control within 15 minutes.

Residents were able to evacuate on their own, but one occupant was taken to Centegra Hospital-Huntley with nonlife-threatening injuries, officials said. Firefighters also rescued a family dog from the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though authorities say it started in the basement. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
