Elmhurst man dies after his vehicle strikes I-294 median

A 57-year-old Elmhurst man died early Saturday from injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle car crash on I-294 after he failed to negotiate a curve on the tollway near Rosemont, state police said.

William C. Hines was traveling south on the Tri-State Tollway before his vehicle struck a median near mile marker No. 39.5, said Heather Poerio, a District 15 Illinois State Police shift commander.

He was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

An ambulance took him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy Sunday showed Hines died from blunt force injuries to the chest.
