Tree ceremonies light up the Northwest suburbs

Friday was another big evening for tree-lighting ceremonies in the Northwest suburbs, with events held in Bartlett, Des Plaines, Hanover Park and Streamwood.

Barrington's tree lighting is Saturday evening as part of the village's Home for the Holidays festival that begins at 10 a.m.

The ceremony in Des Plaines began at 4 p.m. in Metropolitan Square and included guest appearances by Batman and Batgirl, hot chocolate, live entertainment, Santa's arrival on a Des Plaines fire engine and the flipping of the big switch to light up the city.
