Jared jewelry store, Subway shop robbed in Schaumburg

Three men entered Jared The Galleria of Jewelry store near Woodfield Mall on Wednesday night, used hammers to smash open a display case of loose diamonds and left with what they could grab, Schaumburg police said.

Police received a 911 call at 7:06 p.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Christy Lindhurst said. She said Jared staff is working on completing an inventory to determine the value of the diamonds stolen.

The thieves did not display any weapons other than the hammers and did not say anything to the approximately eight employees and two customers in the store at the time, all of whom were uninjured, Lindhurst said.

Police described the thieves as black men wearing dark-colored clothing and hooded sweatshirts pulled down over their faces. As of late Wednesday police were still working on retrieving an image of the robbers from surveillance footage.

Lindhurst said the men are believed to have fled in a vehicle, but detectives have not yet identified what it might look like.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Schaumburg police's nonemergency line at 847-882-3534.

In what Schaumburg police currently believe is an unrelated incident, there also was an armed robbery Wednesday night at the Subway restaurant at 1400 N. Roselle Road.

Lindhurst said a black man described as being in his 30s and wearing black pants and a blue hooded sweatshirt partially covering his face, walked into the restaurant around 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, displayed a semiautomatic handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, and the thief fled on foot, she said.
