Hoffman Estates house fire causes $60,000 damage

A fire around a chimney early Friday morning caused an estimated $60,000 damage to a Hoffman Estates home and its contents but no injuries.

Hoffman Estates firefighters received a report at 5:05 a.m. of a chimney fire at a house on the 400 block of East Thacker Street.

An analysis inside and out of the smoke coming from the chimney led to the discovery of a fire in the wall around the fire place. Further investigation found the fire had extended into an attic space and the living room.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but its cause remains under investigation.

The occupants of the house were home but safely evacuated on their own.

The house had working smoke detectors but not a residential sprinkler system.

The Schaumburg and Streamwood fire departments provided aid at the scene, while those from Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Barrington and Elgin assisted with station coverage during the fire.
