Suspect charged in Crystal Lake jewelry store robbery
Crystal Lake police charged an Iowa man Thursday in a robbery that took place last month at Dalzell Jewelers.
Cordall A. Robinson, 19, of the 4000 block of 22nd Avenue in Cedar Rapids, was charged with retail theft and aggravated battery. His bail was set at $20,000.
About 3:05 p.m. Oct. 21, Robinson entered the store, located at 41 N. Williams St., and asked to see watches and diamond jewelry, according to a police news release. As the employee placed two trays containing diamond jewelry on the glass display case, Robinson grabbed both trays and fled, police said.
The employee attempted to stop Robinson, who struck the employee with his hand, according to the news release. The employee sustained a minor injury but did not require medical attention.
Robinson entered an occupied vehicle nearby, and the two fled with $35,000 in jewelry, police said.
Crystal Lake police continue their investigation to identify the getaway driver.
