4 boys arrested after Mount Prospect vehicle burglaries

Mount Prospect police arrested four juveniles after numerous vehicle burglaries Sunday morning.

A 15-year-old boy from Chicago was charged with one count of burglary to motor vehicle and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. A 16-year-old boy from Chicago was charged with one count of burglary to motor vehicle. A 17-year-old boy from Chicago was charged with one count of burglary to motor vehicle, and a 16-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile with one count of criminal trespass to vehicle.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, a Mount Prospect officer was patrolling the area of Main Street and Thayer Street when he observed three boys dressed in all black clothing walking in heavy rainfall. The officer attempted to speak with the boys, but they all ran. Other officers responded and began to search the area.

Officers discovered unlocked vehicles had been burglarized on the 100-300 block of North Maple Street, the 100-200 block of North Emerson Street and the 100 block of North Wille Street.

Officers also located a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen from Skokie, where a fourth boy was sleeping. The four boys had arrived in Mount Prospect in the stolen vehicle, police said.

The other three boys were located, police said, and items that were stolen from the cars were recovered.
