Families flock to Pumpkinfest at Didier Farms

Small children crawled over a sea of orange looking for bigger and bigger pumpkins Monday during Pumpkinfest at Didier Farms in Lincolnshire.

The annual fall festival features a corn maze, tractor hayrides, the Animal Land zoo, Pumpkin Playland, Silly String Asylum, pig races, kiddie rides and lots of pumpkins.

"We have been here since 1912, when the farm was purchased. Pumpkinfest goes for six weeks with all kinds of activities," said Didier Farms manager Donna Didier. "Families love coming out here. That is kind of what we are all about."

In addition to the activities, the Farmstand sells homemade pumpkin and apple cider doughnuts, fresh pies, caramel apples, kettle corn and fall produce.

"It is a family tradition for us. I've been coming here since I was little," Wheeling resident Jill Meyer said as she watched her 4-year-old niece, Zoie Zelasko, pull a wagon filled with pumpkins. "Since it's family owned, I think that's important to people."
