Cops: Naperville Central student brought unloaded gun to school
A student brought an unloaded handgun to Naperville Central High School on Tuesday, but there was no threat to students or staff, police and Naperville Unit District 203 officials say.
The gun was discovered after a teacher contacted a dean to report a student who was acting suspiciously, district spokeswoman Michelle Fregoso said in a statement.
The student, a juvenile, was removed from class to meet with a dean. After talking with the student, the dean found the weapon and notified the school resource officer, officials said.
Naperville police Cmdr. Lou Cammiso said the gun was discovered about 12:45 p.m. and now is in the custody of police. The department's juvenile officers are investigating the student who brought the gun, and Cammiso said charges are possible.
Instruction continued as usual without a lockdown throughout school hours Tuesday, Fregoso said.
