Man gets prison for touching, kissing teen in Hoffman Estates
A 61-year-old Hoffman Estates man who prosecutors say propositioned a teenage girl for sex last May because he thought she was a prostitute pleaded guilty to criminal sexual abuse.
Elias Serna was sentenced Friday to two years in prison. He must register as a sex offender for 10 years, court records show.
Prosecutors say on May 13 Serna approached the 18-year-old, who had stopped her bicycle on the 900 block of Bode Road in Hoffman Estates to return a text message from her sister. After Serna hugged, touched and kissed the girl, prosecutors said, he retrieved a $10 bill from his pocket and attempted to place it in the girl's sweater.
The girl left and gave police a description of the man, prosecutors said. Several days later, the girl spotted Serna outside a liquor store and called police, who said Serna matched her description.
Serna, who received credit for 152 days in custody, was also ordered to pay $709 in fines.
