Oak Grove custodians to be honored by state

The custodial staff at Oak Grove District 68 in Green Oaks will be recognized in the team category in the Illinois State Board of Education's annual "Those Who Excel" awards honoring teachers and other groups that assist in a school setting.

Superintendent Lonny Lemon and others wrote letters of support, saying the staff worked tirelessly the past five summers as extensive renovations at the school were done. The nomination described the team as an "invaluable resource" in the single-school district because of work ethic, ability to build quality relationships with staff and students and willingness to adjust schedules to accommodate after school and weekend events.

Lemon said the 10-member crew won a Merit award and he will be driving them to Bloomington Oct. 28 for the awards banquet.
