Lake County seeks Adopt A Highway volunteer groups

The Lake County Division of Transportation is seeking volunteers to help pick up litter and debris along highways and bike paths.

Volunteers adopt a section of a county highway, and commit to cleaning it twice a year. LCDOT provides safety vests and bags.

An Adopt-A-Highway group should have at least eight to 10, but there is no limit. Participants must be 10 or older and those under 18 require parental supervision.

In 2016, volunteers collected about 245,000 pounds of materials from roads and bike paths, with about 40 percent of that recyclable.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Sept. 8. Contact Keely Wells at (847) 377-7472 or visit www.lakecountyil.gov/422/Adopt-A-Highway.
