Both drivers in Oakbrook Terrace crash charged with DUI

The two drivers involved in an crash Sunday in Oakbrook Terrace have been charged with driving under the influence, authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities said the crash occurred when Sean Maroney, 20, of Chardon, Ohio, was driving the wrong way on Roosevelt Road and smashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Molly Paige, 25, of Mayfair Road in Lombard. Maroney was alone in his car at the time, and Paige had three passengers, authorities said.

Everyone involved in the crash was taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Following an investigation by Oakbrook Terrace police, Maroney was charged with aggravated DUI and Paige was charged with misdemeanor DUI.

Maroney appeared Wednesday in DuPage County bond court where Judge Michael Reidy set his bond at $150,000.

"As I have said time and time again, all DUI crashes are 100 percent avoidable," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "People have got to learn that if you have been drinking, don't think you are all right to drive. Call a taxi or call a friend - you'll thank yourself the next morning."

Maroney is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 25 in front of Judge Robert Miller.
