Fred Fest fun returns to Port Barrington

Plenty of fun is expected Saturday for the annual Fred Fest fundraiser at Fox River Preserve and Marina in Port Barrington.

Billed as a celebration of open space, Fred Fest's fifth edition will run from noon to 6 p.m. at the marina, 28500 W. Roberts Road. Family nature activities and local musicians will be part of the fun.

All net proceeds will benefit the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves and help the restoration of the Grassy Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Barrington. Fred Fest admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for families.

Work being done at the preserve includes restoring nearly 100 acres along the Fox River to its pre-settlement condition by removing invasive species and planting native species.

Fred Fest's music lineup includes Sons of Bildor, Dennis Caravello, the Fluffers and Hudson-McCoy. Activities will include learning about mammals from Barrington's Citizens for Conservation, and games and crafts sponsored by the Barrington Area Conservation Trust.

Patrons may bring their own food and beverages. Limited food and beverages will be available at Fred Fest.

There is no rain date for the bash. Parking is free.
