Prosecutors: Palatine teens use BB gun in attempted robbery
Two Palatine teens are accused of using a BB gun Sunday during an attempted robbery in Arlington Heights.
Alex Godoy, 19, and Exequiel Sosa-Barrientos, 18, were ordered held Monday on $50,000 and $25,000 bail, respectively, on aggravated robbery charges, which carry a sentence of four to 15 years in prison upon conviction. Probation is also an option.
The teens were riding together on a bike Sunday in the Stonebridge of Arlington Heights apartment complex when a resident drove up, said Alyssa Grissom, Cook County assistant state's attorney. Sensing something was amiss, the man left his vehicle and ran to the door to his building. The man ran up the stairs, followed by Godoy, who displayed what the man believed was a gun, Grissom said.
The man entered the apartment and called 911. About five minutes after the call, Arlington Heights police stopped the teens based on the man's description, Grissom said.
Neither teen has a criminal background.
Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered both to adhere to a 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew if they are released and to have no contact with the accuser.
They next appear in court on Aug. 31.
