Leicester Road in Elk Grove Village still closed after gas leak

Leicester Road in Elk Grove Village is expected to be closed until midmorning Tuesday as crews repair a broken gas main near Alexian Brothers Medical Center, officials said.

The road was closed to traffic between Biesterfield Road and Gloucester Drive after workers installing a water main struck the natural gas main about 7:45 a.m. today. Elk Grove Village firefighters and gas crews stopped the leak at 2:40 p.m., officials said.

Crews are continuing to repair the gas pipe. Police did not have an exact time-estimation as to when Leicester Road would reopen but said the streets would be cleaned, cleared, and open by midmorning. Visitors to Alexian Brothers Medical Center can access the hospital from Biesterfield and Beisner roads, officials said.
