84th annual Lake Villa Days comes to a close

It was a water battle royale Sunday when the women of the Lake Villa VFW Water Witches faced off against Selina's Secrets for first place in the women's division of the Lake Villa's water fights.

After struggling to a draw in the best of three challenges, the Water Witches finally won the title of champions.

"There is nothing better. We have taken second place three years in a row and we finally got our first place trophy from here. It is the most amazing feeling," Jenny Schild of the Water Witches said as she stood exhausted and wet.

Water fights were among the attractions Sunday with eight women's teams and 21 men's teams on the final day of the 84th annual Lake Villa Days festival.

Firefighters took center stage Saturday, while Sunday's competition featured regular folks who for a few minutes got a sense of what the pros experience as they shot water from fire hoses to push an empty beer keg over the line to victory.

The annual community festival also featured live music, food, rides, games, bingo, vendor booths and other family-oriented activities at Lehmann Park in downtown Lake Villa.
