Beef Shack, sports bar coming to far west Elgin

Several new businesses, including a gas station that's been in the works for more than three years, expect to open in the next few months near Route 20 and Nesler Road on Elgin's far west side.

The new "Oasis on 20" will include a BP gas station and Dunkin' Donuts opening as soon as Labor Day at 3191 W. Route 20, on the southwest corner of Route 20 and Nesler Road, said Ron Ambrose of Ambrose Design Group in Crystal Lake. The building has an empty space for an additional tenant.

Just to the east, Beef Shack will open by late September in the newly built Galleria II strip mall at 3145 W. Route 20, said Daniel Perillo, president of franchising for Beef Shack. Elgin will be the third Beef Shack location, after St. Charles and Hoffman Estates, he said. There will be outdoor seating and a menu that will include beef and sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and more.

The Galleria II strip mall, which was built in February and is now empty, includes eight retail eight spaces at a total 16,000 square feet. Future tenants are Sauvage Barber Salon, which will probably open in October, and TJ's Sports Bar, expected to open in late November or early December, strip mall owner Ron DeRosa said.

DeRosa said he also owns the adjacent Galleria I strip mall, whose tenants include Maciano's Pizza & Pastaria and Sammy's Mexican Grill. "We have not had any turnover since we finished building (Galleria I) in 2008. That's a testament to that area," he said.

DeRosa said his business partner is Ed Greco, owner of Greco and Sons; DeRosa and Greco operate as part of Greco Reggi Real Estate Development, which has several retail centers in the Chicago area.

Construction of "Oasis on 20" has been slow-moving after plans were submitted in June 2014.

The developers are the Lazar brothers, who own and operate a BP station at Starks Corner in Pingree Grove and another BP station in Rockford. Joe Lazar did not respond to a request for comment.

Ambrose said the delays were due to several factors, including lengthy land annexation proceedings and design changes along the way. "There were a lot of balls up in the air," he said.
