Palatine teen with $3,000 worth of drugs gets probation

A Palatine teen who prosecutors say had $3,000 worth of drugs in his room when he was arrested in January pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance.

Noah Smith, 18, was sentenced to two years TASC probation Thursday, according to court records, TASC - which stands for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities - is an alternative to prison for nonviolent offenders with substance abuse problems. Treatment is a condition of the probation.

Smith was also ordered to pay $2,809 in fines, court records show.

He was arrested Jan. 25 after members of the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant and found LSD and marijuana in his room, prosecutors said.
