Oakton's Des Plaines campus to remain closed Thursday

Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus will remain closed for a fifth consecutive day Thursday because of flooding that continues to affect both entrances.

The Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, will be closed to call classes and activities, according to a news release. The Skokie campus, including the college's enrollment and testing centers, is scheduled to be open. Continuing education classes at high schools also will meet if the respective schools are open, according to the release.

Oakton President Joianne L. Smith said in a letter to students that the college does not plan to extend the semester, since some classes have been rescheduled to the college's Skokie campus, while others are using online platforms.

The Des Plaines campus originally closed last Thursday and was closed the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday as per its normal summer operating schedule.
