Rolling Meadows to repair salt dome

Rolling Meadows will spend $14,850 to replace a third of the roof shingles on its salt dome, temporarily extending the life of the building, officials said.

Public Works Director Fred Vogt said the city will consider replacing the Berdnick Street salt dome in the next three to five years. For now, the roof repairs will "buy us a few more years time," he said.

Eighteen of the 54 triangular roof sections will be replaced - mostly on the south and west sides of the dome roof.
