Palatine American Legion hosting outdoor movie nights

Palatine's American Legion post is looking to Hollywood to bring in additional business this summer.

American Legion Post 690 at 122 W. Palatine Road will host three outdoor movie nights this summer. Palatine village council members this week agreed to accommodate the plan by voting to waive an amplified sound ordinance from 8 to 11:30 p.m. on the three days in question.

In addition, the council agreed to grant a temporary liquor license amendment so alcohol may be served during the movies in the American Legion parking lot.

Movie nights are scheduled for June 16, July 14, and Aug. 18. Admission will be $10 and include three beer or wine tickets, with anyone younger than 21 getting in for free.

Up first will be "The Wizard of Oz," followed by "Shrek" and "Jurassic Park."

To add to the festivities, there will be a popcorn machine outside. Candy bars, ice cream and hot dogs will be sold by the American Legion.

Flicks will be on the American Legion building's north side. A projector with a white sheet on the north side wall or a large-screen television will be used to show the movies, according to the American Legion.

Movies will be inside in the event of bad weather.
