Algonquin Commons to hold Touch a Truck event

Children and children at heart will get a chance to get hands on with supersized vehicles this month along the Randall Road corridor.

The Algonquin Commons mall is hosting a Touch a Truck event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 11,

The popular event draws kids and even those well past their teenage years who want to get up close and personal with the vehicles.

They will be able to climb up and on, and touch many different emergency and service vehicles at the event, which will offer a safe and fun environment to touch the trucks.

There will be fire trucks, police cars and even a Zamboni, as well as many other specialty vehicles, according to a news release from Algonquin Commons.

The event is free and open to the public.

At the Touch a Truck there also will be prizes and giveaways.

The vehicles will be stationed throughout the mall, so be on the lookout for your favorites to go visit.

Wonder Woman Day:

To mark the release of a new "Wonder Woman" movie, the Barnes and Noble along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva is hosting a Wonder Woman Day.

The event will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 5, at the store, at 102 Commons Drive, in the Geneva Commons Shopping Center.

Attendees can get a free DC Superhero Girls or DC Universe Rebirth Wonder Woman Day special edition comic at the event, while supplies last.

The store also will be having specials on graphic novels throughout the store on that day.

Don't expect a circus, though:

Also at Barnes and Noble in Geneva Commons on Saturday, June 3, there will be a fun storytime event.

The "If You Ever Want to Bring a Circus to the Library, Don't!" storytime event begins at 11 a.m. at the bookstore.

Kids will get to hear the story that tells of a girl named Magnolia who sees a poster that says, "You can Do Anything at the Library!"

Magnolia decides it would be OK to set up her own big top right there in the library, complete with her own cannonball routine.

Following the reading of the story, there will be activities for children to do that day to go along with the book.

The event is free and open to the public.

Shred it up:

That same day, Saturday, June 3, the Algonquin Commons mall along the Randall Road corridor will be hosting a shred fest.

Do not forget to gather up your old, outdated papers that you no longer need, and don't want anyone else to see, to bring them to the mall to be instantly shredded.

The document destroying will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.

Each vehicle can bring up to two file-sized boxes to be shredded. The shredding will take place on the spot in the mall parking lot, so you can see your files destroyed before you eyes.
