Numerous departments battle fire that destroyed building near Lake Zurich

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a vacant building near Lake Zurich. The blaze was fought by more than a dozen departments, Wauconda Fire District officials said.

Firefighters were called to the 25000 block of North Old McHenry Road at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the fire district.

Crews found fire streaming through the roof of the medium two-story structure. The fire was so intense that crews were unable to enter.

Because of the fire's intensity and a lack of hydrants, a second alarm was sounded, which brought to the scene the Countryside, Fox River Grove, Round Lake, McHenry, Barrington Fire Protection District, Lake Zurich, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Algonquin, Palatine, Cary, Nunda, Palatine Rural, Mundelein, Libertyville and Deerfield departments.

The fire was brought under control by about 10:30 p.m., though crews searched for hidden fire until about midnight.
