Des Plaines offering help with home repairs

Des Plaines officials are reminding residents of two programs designed to help pay for home repairs.

The city's home repair and minor repair programs help low- to moderate-income residents pay for repairs to address code violations or long-overdue improvements. Applicants can receive up to $24,000 through the home repair program for repairs to roofs, doors and windows, electrical, plumbing, heating and weatherizing.

For smaller repairs or additions for seniors, applicants for the minor repair program can receive up to $8,000 for ramps, handrails, minor carpentry, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and limited roof and gutter repair.
