Arlington Heights man sentenced for Palatine tanning salon robbery
A 26-year-old Arlington Heights man convicted of robbing a Palatine tanning salon in October 2015 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Mark E. Silverston was sentenced Thursday on charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and theft, court records show. That same day, court records show he pleaded guilty in a separate case to an unrelated residential burglary.
He was sentenced in both cases with his prison time to run concurrently with the 10-year tanning salon conviction.
According to authorities in the tanning salon case, Silverston entered the salon about 1:35 p.m. Oct. 17, 2015, wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Prosecutors said he lifted the sweatshirt to display a black handgun and ordered the clerk to "give me all of your money."
A salon surveillance camera showed Silverston wearing the sweatshirt with the hood up while the robbery was in process. A surveillance camera at a nearby business showed Silverston outside the salon with the hood down right before the holdup, according to police.
Silverston received credit for 449 days in custody.
