Elmhurst man hospitalized with burns after house fire

One man was hospitalized with burns over 40 percent of his body following a house fire early Sunday morning in Elmhurst that left the home uninhabitable, authorities said Monday.

Firefighters said they responded at 2:49 a.m. to a report of a fire on the 400 block of East Park Street and arrived to find fire and smoke showing from the split-level home.

Four people were in the house at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate. The injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Loyola Hospital's burn unit in Maywood.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities said.
